THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE

Baggage rules

Keep dimensions, weight and fare entitlement in the same conversation.

There is no universal cabin allowance. The operating carrier, fare and aircraft can all matter. Our atlas is a dated reference to primary airline policies, with personal and overhead bags kept separate. It is designed to help you ask the right question of your booking.

Check the source again before travelling. When an airline’s published inch and centimetre figures round differently, the fit tool preserves those figures rather than inventing a single exact conversion.

Baggage rules — start here: Operating carrier for every segment; Personal versus overhead entitlement; Published size and weight
Decision map: Operating carrier for every segment → Personal versus overhead entitlement → Published size and weight.

Read the whole allowance

An allowance describes more than size. It may specify item count, weight, storage category and eligibility by fare. Identify the operating carrier on each segment and keep personal-item, cabin-bag and checked-bag rules separate. A retailer’s description cannot grant permission to bring a bag.

Use the atlas as a dated reference

Our atlas preserves individual airline profiles and the source links. It does not invent a universal international limit or numeric personal-item dimensions where the source does not provide them. Recheck the booking and policy before departure, especially after an itinerary or fare change.

The checks worth making

  1. Operating carrier for every segment
  2. Personal versus overhead entitlement
  3. Published size and weight
  4. Aircraft and connection exceptions

Etekcity digital luggage scale

A handheld check before leaving for the airport. Leave a margin below the airline limit because scales and baggage rules can differ.
